Rebalance a Trading 212 portfolio on a schedule
You hold a set of positions in a Trading 212 Invest or Stocks ISA account and want them back at their target weights every month, quarter or year, without redoing the sums each time.

The situation
Trading 212 makes it quick to build a portfolio, but a portfolio of positions does not rebalance itself. As prices move, the weights drift away from the plan, and putting them back means calculating a trade for each holding. If you use Pies, Trading 212 has its own rebalancing options; this scenario is for plain positions, which the Pies feature does not manage.
The scenario below is illustrative. The figures are invented to show the mechanics and are not a forecast.
What it looks like with Acubic
- 01
Build the strategy first
The connection attaches to a saved strategy, so the target weights are set before you connect. Acubic screens, selects and allocates inside your risk level and position limits.
- 02
Create an API key in Trading 212
In the Trading 212 app, go to Settings, then API (Beta), and enable the permissions Acubic lists on its connect screen. Leave both Pies permissions off. The key can be revoked in the app at any time, and your login is never shared.
- 03
Choose how much and how often
Paste the key and secret, then set the amount Acubic manages and a frequency: monthly, quarterly or annually. Invest and Stocks ISA accounts are supported.
- 04
On the rebalance date, Acubic reads your live positions
It compares them with the target weights and builds the smallest set of orders that closes the gap. Positions already at target are not touched.
- 05
Approve it, or let it run
On One-Click Approval, the default, the orders wait for you. On Full Automatic, which a Trading 212 connection allows directly on the main account, scheduled rebalances run without a per-order prompt, one order in flight at a time, with sizes rounded down and a managed-value check before submitting.
The arithmetic behind a rebalance
Suppose 10,000 is managed in four holdings with targets of 40%, 30%, 20% and 10%. After some months of uneven moves, Holding A has grown past its target and Holding C has fallen short.
| Holding | Value now | Weight now | Target | Drift | Trade to rebalance |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Holding A | 4,700.00 | 47.0% | 40.0% | +7.0 pp | Sell 700.00 |
| Holding B | 2,900.00 | 29.0% | 30.0% | -1.0 pp | Buy 100.00 |
| Holding C | 1,500.00 | 15.0% | 20.0% | -5.0 pp | Buy 500.00 |
| Holding D | 900.00 | 9.0% | 10.0% | -1.0 pp | Buy 100.00 |
The rebalance sells part of what is over target and buys what is under. Try your own holdings in the rebalancing calculator, including a buy-only mode that only invests new cash.
What this does not do
- It does not promise or forecast a return. A rebalance restores a plan; it does not predict prices.
- It does not move money in or out of your Trading 212 account, and the API key permissions it asks for include nothing that does.
- It does not rebalance on a drift threshold. The calendar frequency you set is the trigger.
- It does not use Pies or CFD accounts. It trades positions directly in Invest and Stocks ISA accounts.
- Revoking the key or disconnecting stops new orders and sells nothing; your positions stay in your account.
Acubic is an independent product operated by Acubic, Inc. It has no partnership, sponsorship or reseller agreement with Trading 212, and Trading 212 does not endorse it.
